SplitTrain 1.1 released!
Hello everybody!
Surprise!!! Nearly 5 years have past and SplitTrain finally got another update - and it is a big one!
Here are the most important changes:
- The UI / UX got a complete overhaul including a new “track event” camera, which is now controlled by holding shift instead of switching between the two cameras and the game has a complete new perspective.
- Various indicators that should help players to better understand how fast they should be going and when the next speed change is coming up were added.
- There is a new to-do in form of a “P-Sign” (Pfeiftafel), where you must sound the horn of the train.
- You now have to stop within +/- 10m of the station to complete the level, when you overshoot you get no points.
Some minor new features and changes I would like to mention:
- The game now has some music (Thanks to Incompetech).
- Track events no longer have an ETA and reset the multiplier to 1x, if you fail them.
- There is lots of new decoration to make the world feel a bit more alive.
- A third train was added to have more variety in how trains control, as train speed, power etc. is no longer part of the level settings.
- The editor was overhauled to be a bit more clear to read.
- It is no longer necessary to scroll to the next track event.
- Trains now have a top speed.
- Various new sound effects and visual effect where added.
I also upgraded to Unity URP, which is a newer render pipeline than originally used back in 2017 when the first version was released. This allowed me to improve the graphics, but also made the game look somewhat different. I might tweak the look a bit at a later stage.
I hope you like the new features and changes! With this update I do no longer consider SplitTrain to be in beta, but to be frank: There is still work to do in form of releasing some new levels. Let´s hope this does not take another 5 years! ;)
Finally, I would like to thank Marcel for sending me a very motivating email (unintentionally). Without this mail there is a fair chance I would not have touched the game again.
